Funding
Current Proposal Call: Deadline 02nd July 2021
UKNDN is funded by the Science and Technologies Facilities Council (STFC) to support UK Nuclear Data activities. The network distributes £100k per year to successful proposals for scoping studies (up to £10k each) and proof of concept studies (up to £50k each) and manages a travel fund that allows visits of UK researchers to overseas facilities (up to £2k per application). Both the travel fund and the project fund will be allocated by a subgroup of the UKNDN Leadership Team. This subgroup will meet twice a year and will invite an overseas expert for the evaluation of the proposals.
The Project Approval Panel will be drawn from the Leadership Team and will include one international expert in nuclear data. The following process will be adopted for funding of proof-of-concept, scoping studies and student/early-career researcher secondments:
- An open call will be issued (6 months before the UKNSF meeting)
- The 2-page proposal (1 page of description, ½ page relevance to nuclear energy needs and ½ page on potential impact) will be submitted 3 months before the UKNSF meeting. Download the proposal form:
PDF format or Word format. - The proposal is sent for review by one academic member and one industrial member of UKNSF (2 months before meeting)
- Reviews received. The Project Approval Panel (consisting of 1 member of the Leadership Team from each of Manchester, Surrey, York plus one international nuclear data expert) ranks and recommends projects for funding (3 weeks before UKNSF meeting)
- Recommendations presented to UKNSF meeting for endorsement.
Due to the shorter timescales involved, small travel requests (up to £2k) will be dealt with by the Leadership Team without external review. A report justifying funded travel claims will be presented to UKNSF for endorsement.
